Beetroot Dal | Beetroot Lentil Soup Recipe, is a simple and easy side dish which goes well with steamed rice or chapati. As few beetroots were lying in my fridge and I wanted to make something super quick side dish gravy, rather making the usual Beetroot Poriyal and dal for rice. And this Beetroot dal was in rescue. How to make Beetroot dal with step by step photos:

1. Heat oil and splutter mustard seeds and cumin seeds. Add curry leaves, chopped onion, crushed garlic and green chillies. Saute till golden brown. Meanwhile wash and cook dal with 1 cup water.

3. Add cooked dal and more water according to the consistency you want. Add salt to taste. Simmer      and cook it for another 5-7 minutes. Check for salt and add as per needed.

Garnish with some coriander leaves, mix and it’s ready to serve with rice or chapati.

Beetroot Dal Recipe

Prep Time : 10 minutes 

Cook Time: 10 minutes

Servings: 4 people

Measurements used:- 1 cup = 250 ml; 1 tbsp = 15 ml; 1 tsp = 5 ml

Ingredients:

1/3 cup moong dal or tur dal
1 tbsp Oil
1/4 tsp Mustard seeds
1/2 tsp Cumin seeds/ jeera
1 no onion medium-sized
2 nos green chilli
3 no Garlic cloves Crushed
1 no medium-sized beetroot
1/4 tsp cumin powder / jeera powder
1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
1/4 tsp fennel/ saunf powder
salt to taste
Coriander leaves for garnishing

Instructions:

  1. Heat oil and splutter mustard seeds and cumin seeds. Addcurry leaves, chopped onion, crushed garlic and green chillies. Saute till golden brown. Meanwhile cook dal with 1 cup water and salt.
  2. Add grated beetroot. Saute and then add all the masala powders. Mix Well.
  3. 3. Add cooked dal and more water acording to the consistency you want. Add salt to taste. Simmer and cook it for another 5-7 minutes. Now it’s ready to serve with rice or chapati
